The start of an ambitious family business

In the 80s, flexible and powerful machining centres were rather scarce for plastics processing companies. Until then, there were large machines on the market, but they were very complicated, not user-friendly and expensive for the post-processing of smaller deep-drawn parts. 1987 - during a chance conversation between Wolfgang Grimme and a young entrepreneur Maximilian Huber (...well, what's chance?), Huber explained the need for a handy compact milling machine. Thus an idea was born!
Wolfgang Grimme (28) used his profound knowledge in mechanical engineering and technology to build a milling machine as a so-called prototype with the simplest equipment. To ensure that the machine fulfilled the necessary basic functions for 5-axis CNC machining, Wolfgang Grimme enlisted the help of personnel in the field of electronics and CNC programming. In the same year, with the first machine order from Swabia, the company foundation of "HG Bearbeitungssysteme Huber & Grimme GmbH", with two managing directors Wolfgang Grimme and Max Huber, was completed.

1987

Foundation of the company in December of 87

1989

Construction of the first company building in the Osterweg 23

1990

The workforce was at 7 employees.
The offers were written by typewriter and sent by mail

1991

Rotary table system type HG 800 / HG 1300 / HG 1400
This machine type became a high-tech milling system in great demand
20 machines were built with 10 employees, of which 3 machines went abroad for the first time (Israel, Netherlands, Switzerland)

1992

Building expansion - Hall 2
New machine development: Portal system
17 employees
Huber leaves the company and hands over his share of the management to Wolfgang Grimme
Max Huber remains a loyal HG machine customer

1993

Dedicated departments for design and programming are created
Technical Development: HG 1400 is equipped with a NUM control system

1994

For the first time, the milling machines were not only built in single but also in a tandem version
The machines became larger and more compact, the milling process more efficient... while the customer is milling on the first table, he can load the second table at the same time

1995

Construction - Hall 3
Technical Development: Construction of the first tool changing system
30 machine deliveries (26 domestic / 4 abroad)

1996

First machine delivery overseas - USA, by container ship from Hamburg

1997

Technical Development: Milling with ultrasonic blade (e.g. finest trimming of carpet tiles)
Certification of the company

1998

Technical Development: PC with Auto-CAD program used for two-dimensional design -
"the drawing board disappeared"

1999

A service field office in northern Germany is created

2000

Large intermediate building - connects Halls 1+2 with Hall 3

2001

Company founding for the service department: HG Support Huber & Grimme GmbH & Co.KG

2003

In jig and fixture construction, so-called "Intelligent Fixtures" are created

2004

New development: Machine type in a gantry design
New development: Water jet system
The request for special machines pushes itself into the focus (...an example, the machining of a fiberglass GFK motor sport airplane fuselage)

2006

First laser machining of carbon fibre parts for the car and motorcycle racing sector

2007

Construction - Hall 4
An assembly hall with a lot of space in height and width, was important for the future and the construction of large plants.

2008

Technical developments in the programming and design team:
VCS Rotary, tool length measurement, geometry measurement, oscillating knife, skin thickness measurement sensor, linear drives, camera system for blade measurement, ultrasonic cutting

2010

New development: Gantry system with 2 Z-axes and independent milling spindles

2011

Reorganization of the company to
HG GRIMME SysTech GmbH and HG GRIMME SERVICE GmbH & Co.KG

2013

Construction - Addition of a storey to the central office building

2014

New development: Gantry rotary table milling machine/slanted bed G-DT-F/SB
The company offers a wide range of different types of machines:
Rotary table systems (RT-F)
Portal systems (P-S-F / P-T-F) / additionally as model construction variant (P-S-F/M)
Gantry systems (G-S-F / G-S-K / G-S-W / G-DT-F/SB) and additionally as model construction variant (G-S-F/M)
70 employees

2015

Focus is shifted towards CFRP machining
80 employees

2016

The online shop is launched

2017

Start of construction - Hall 5 in the "Kulturweg 12"
Delivery of the 1,000th machine
86 employees
HG GRIMME SysTech & SCM-Group (Italy) - Start of a partnership

2018

Hall 5 is released for the production and assembly area
New development: Gantry milling machine model making compact (G-S-F/MK)

2019

Construction of the largest milling fixture to date
2 milling devices with approx. 800 kg are milled out of a 4 tonne aluminium blank | 3.2 tonnes are chip residues

2020

The year 2020 - one of the greatest challenges since the company founding
