Boost the productivity of your CNC machines –
with milling tools from HG GRIMME SysTech
The milling tools which are used in machining centres differ significantly in their quality, for example in the balance quality. Whereas lower-quality milling tools may cause damage to the milling spindle and therefore lead to high repair costs and machine shutdowns, high-quality tools produce hardly any vibrations. This reduces the load on the machine components, preserves the CNC milling spindle and increases the lifespan of the machine.
The balance quality – an important factor in milling
If you use milling tools with a high balance quality, your component will be machined cleanly and with the very best quality of surface finish. This will often also obviate the cost of finishing – or reduce it to a minimum. This allows your CNC machining centre to operate with maximum efficiency. In addition, the maintenance costs are substantially reduced. This applies both to milling cutters and to other CNC tools which are used. A balanced CNC toolholder with a perfectly clamped tool also helps a great deal to preserve the CNC machine and produce an excellent milling result.
Good milling tools enhance the quality and efficiency of your CNC milling machine
Good tools are individually tailored to the specific material and operations and are designed to optimise the process. They enable high feed rates, appropriate rotational speeds and will last for a long time.
As we know exactly what makes a good milling tool, we match the tool which is used in your machining centre to your requirements before you start. You provide us with the material first – we then analyse it on the basis of the milling results achieved in our own series of experiments. This means we can provide you with the optimum milling tool for your CNC machining centre which delivers an optimum cut with reduced cutting force for a perfect milling result. We generally work with solid carbide cutters. These are precision tools which are optimised for high-speed machining. Cutters for plastics are generally not coated. But for materials that are reinforced with glass fibre or carbon fibre, it is beneficial for the cutter to be coated to achieve longer lifespans.
Special cutters for CNC machining centres
We are also more than happy to develop special cutters that are designed specifically to suit your requirements and enable several steps to be combined. This significantly reduces the milling time and increases the production output.
Cutters with optimised chip spaces
Optimised chip spaces on a milling tool help to produce an excellent milling result because they are the ideal way to get rid of the waste chips that are removed. This produces less friction and less heat. However, the waste pieces that the cutters produce when removing material are frequently forgotten. If they are flung into the milling process in an uncontrolled manner, this may damage the CNC toolholder or cutter, which in turn will reduce the useful lifespan of the cutters and machine components. Waste pieces may also cause faults on the machine and thus stop production. This is why when our specialists are designing a fixture they make sure that all waste materials produced during the milling process are removed in an optimised way in your CNC machining centre (link to fixture construction). We will be happy to advise you on milling strategies, feed rates and material-optimised rotational speeds.
